Meet Our Board
Margie Parker - President
Margie loves to hike and explore nature, watching for birds, critters, and native plants. Living on Whidbey since 1981, she is thankful for all of our parks and open spaces. After 40 years of caring for children as a pediatric nurse, she enjoys caring for our beautiful State Parks with other volunteers.
Bill Young - Vice President
Bill serves as a member of the Keepers of Admiralty Head Lighthouse and is a Docent for Fort Casey at the Fort and also at the Lighthouse. He is a long-standing member of the Friends of Whidbey State Parks. Bill enjoys gardening and palling around with his German Shepherd Shayna.
Sandy Moon - Secretary
Sandy has lived on Whidbey Island since 1982. She helped to raise 6 children in Coupeville. She retired from the US Marine Corps Reserve and worked in Food Service at the Coupeville Schools for 15 years. She works with many volunteer organizations. Sandy, her partner, Robert Fulton, and their dog, Rosie, live in Lagoon Pt and enjoy as many days on the water as possible.
Elka Burnett - Treasurer
Elka Burnett moved from Hawaii to Whidbey Island in 2006. As a perpetual “Island Girl” she loves the beautiful sites and trails that make this island so special. Her dedication to community involvement is apparent in all she does. She is the Branch Manager of Peoples Bank in Coupeville, the Treasurer of the Coupeville Arts & Crafts Festival, and participates in many other local organizations.
Sandy Hunt - Facebook Posts
Sandy loves to walk the park trails with Heidi, her Friendly Golden Retriever.
As a longtime Whidbey resident, she also volunteers for Sound Water Stewards, Island County 4-H, and Girl Scouts.
Brent Lambert - Grant Writer
Brent retired from 40 years in public service in the areas of economic development, community development and cultural resources management. He is a founding board member of FOWSP and a passionate advocate for Whidbey Island’s state parks. Brent is camera shy ~ this is his hiking pal Fiona.
Nancy Zaretzke - Spotlight Writer
After moving to Whidbey 20 years ago and walking and hiking many of the beautiful trails in the Whidbey State Parks, Nancy learned of the Friends group and jumped on board! Her favorite trails are the ones in the woods or with a view. So basically, all the State Parks trails are favorites!
Jack Schwab - Director
After 30 years in the management consulting industry, Jack spends his time hiking in local, national, and international parks, and volunteering with a variety of organizations in the Whidbey community.
